Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology: October 2026
October 8 takes us into the month of the Earth Dog (“Wu Xu”) as the Sun crosses 15° Libra. We’re now in the last month of autumn in the Northern hemisphere according to the Chinese solar calendar. This is a highly significant month with star 9 in the center of the monthly Feng Shui Flying star chart giving us a preview of 2027. Take note of any energetic shifts happening in your living spaces and what transpires in the environment as star 9 is also the ruling star of the upcoming year of the Fire Sheep.
We had a different kind of preview of the energy of 2027 in September, with Yin Fire in the Fire Rooster month highlighting the aspects of life that we should pay more attention to in the coming year. This month, star 9 in the center presents us with a preview of 2027’s environmental influences that we will experience as energetic changes in our living spaces and the external world, including weather and nature-related phenomena. Since star 9 is associated with Li, the Fire trigram, which is also Yin Fire in nature, this is a month to be vigilant and take extra care if you live in a fire-prone area.
The Fire trigram is also the ruling trigram of Period 9 (the Age of 9), our current 20-year cycle. Associated with light, the heart, the eyes, the emotion joy, the color red, and the middle daughter (or middle-aged women), a 9 cycle helps open our consciousness to the higher realms. Pay attention to events happening this month, especially those highlighting female leaders, spiritual figures, energy sources, AI, and the metaverse.
The arrival of the Dog month leads us into one of the year’s most mystical seasonal markers called “Cold Dew” in the Northern hemisphere, with Yin or darkness gaining strength over Yang after equality at equinox. In the Southern hemisphere, it’s the reverse seasonal marker called “Clear and Bright”, with Yang or light gaining over Yin as days become brighter in this last month of spring. Whether you’re in the Northern or Southern hemisphere, harmonize your energy with the light of the sun to be in harmony with the season: be most active during the day, and start winding down just before sundown.
October is a time of transition with Fire and Earth dominating the landscape, which may manifest in the environment as heatwaves as well as fire and earth-related incidents. This month, Fire will finally start to yield to the season with Yang Earth in the heavenly frequency of the month and in the Dog in the earthly branch weakening the strong Fire in the Fire Horse, but it’ll be a slow, gradual weakening with occasional outbursts of more Fire as the Dog and the Horse as allies in the Fire trinity also form more Fire. Note that the Tiger will appear to complete the trine on October 19 and 31. These 2 days are the month’s most vibrant days - you can truly accomplish something amazing, especially if Fire is a favorable element in your chart.
As a Yang Earth sign, the Dog can be still and steady as a mountain, but hidden Yin Fire in the Dog can also manifest as small outbursts of Fire that can take us by surprise. If something triggers you, take a deep breath before you react. Yang Earth can also represent delays and blockages – look for creative solutions or take a detour to get around a blockage instead of letting it stop you in your path. As one of the four Earth signs in Chinese astrology, the Dog helps us stay centered and anchored as we get ready for the quiet of winter in the Northern hemisphere and the liveliness of summer in the Southern hemisphere.
Earth element associated with Saturn presents us with work, duties and responsibilities as well as rules and regulations to keep us rooted. From now to November 6 is a time to review our commitments, routines, and boundaries as we let go what doesn’t serve in this last month of Metal season. Ancestral healing work can be especially transformative this month since the intuitive Dog is closely connected to the ancestral realm. Taoist practitioners traditionally spend the first day of the Dog month on rituals honoring their ancestors.
Signs that have affinities with the Dog are secret friend the Rabbit and allies the Tiger and the Horse. Those with these signs in their chart can generally expect a supportive month ahead. The Tiger may experience an especially transformative month with the Dog and the Horse forming a full Fire trine. *Keep in mind that other signs in the natal chart may contribute to a more challenging month.
Keep a low profile and protect your boundaries if you have the Dragon, the sign opposite the Dog, or the other Earth signs the Sheep (the Goat) or the Ox in your chart.

Hexagram of the Month: hexagram 15, Humility
The I-ching hexagram for the Earth Dog pillar can give us additional insights into the month and that is Hexagram 15, Humility. Mountain trigram below Earth trigram is an image of modesty and moderation. Picture yourself standing still like a mountain, free of ego and pride. You know how to moderate and balance yourself and return to the center when life takes you too far to the left or to the right. The center is where we’ll find peace and harmony.
Feng Shui for the Earth Dog month (October 8 - November 6, 2026)
In the Flying Star chart for the Earth Dog month above, the numbers in green are the annual stars for the current year (good until February 3, 2027), while the numbers in blue refer to October 2026’s monthly stars (good from October 8 until November 7, 2026).
Just like the prevailing elements of the month, the number in the center of the chart can bring insights into the general moods and themes of the period. Monthly star 9 forms an auspicious “sum of ten” with annual star 1 in the center, indicating completion luck. As the current and future prosperity stars, stars 9 and 1 also bring potentials for wealth when activated. If the center of your home is an open space, use the sector to activate the vibrant energy of the sector and invite prosperity.
The best way to energize the positive stars is to simply do more of your daily activities in the sectors occupied by the stars. Other vibrant sectors this month are the Southeast and the Northwest. Monthly star 8 in the Southeast sector together with annual star 9, and monthly star 1 together with annual star 2 in the Northwest can help increase our productivity and bottom line, but use the Northwest sparingly. Although star 2 was associated with illness energy in the past 20-year periods, its influence as an illness star has been slowly weakening since we entered Period 9 in 2024, and it’s now considered a future distant prosperity star.
Keep the North and South sectors quiet – these are the sectors visited by the monthly and annual stars 5 of misfortune. Avoid the sectors if possible or use it only as needed as movements and noises will activate the sectors. Pay special attention to how you feel in the North sector this month and how the sector affects you and other occupants as it will be the most afflicted sector in the year of the Fire Sheep with annual star 5 flying to the sector starting on February 4, 2027.
Reinforce all doors and windows located in the East sector, visited by monthly star 7 of violence and robberies, and the Southwest sector, where the annual 7 is. Take extra care when using sharp objects in the Southwest as the sector carries strong Metal energy with Metal stars annual 7 and monthly 6 visiting the sector.
Use the West and Northeast mindfully and leave the room when you notice temper rising, as annual and monthly stars 3 can easily stir up conflicts and arguments.
*Although there are remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to simply avoid using the sector, or keep the area as tidy and quiet as possible, especially if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal energies as you may accidentally activate a negative natal star. If you do have to spend time in the area, keep your activities there only as needed.
