Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology: July 2026
July 7 takes us into the month of the Wood Sheep, the last month of summer in the Chinese solar calendar. We’re now in the “Slight Heat” seasonal marker, with Yin starting rise again after being taken over by Yang on summer solstice. In the Flying Star Feng Shui chart, monthly star 3 of arguments, associated with the Thunder trigram, takes center stage, indicating a month when conflicts can easily arise.
We may now settle into a quieter rhythm after a physically active, social month of the double Horse in June. As a Yin Earth sign, the Sheep welcomes us into the lazy days of summer with the Qi in the environment calling us to slow down and return to the center after Fire element’s high at solstice. As the secret friend of the Horse, the Sheep also fosters more peace and harmony and it’s a good sign that the month begins on Water Horse day.
The strongest of the four Earth signs, the Sheep / the Goat marks the transition from late summer to beginning of fall. Dampness is a common health issue during this time of year, a condition associated when heat and humidity encounter overly strong Earth element. Avoid dampness-related conditions such as lethargy, congestion, swelling of the joints, and gastrointestinal disorders by staying physically active and eating foods that are Yin in nature such as cucumber, watermelon, berries, jicama, pear, peppermint, and leafy greens. Metal element foods such as ginger, chili peppers, turmeric, and kimchi help disperse internal heat. Eat simply and lightly to avoid sluggishness.
With Yin Wood in the heavenly stem of the month, the key to thriving this month is to stay flexible and keep an open mind. As our mind expands, so does our consciousness and ability to see more beauty and diversity in the world around us. Yin Wood as the diplomat archetype of the 10 heavenly stems invites us to work in the spirit of peace and collaboration rather than fighting or competing with each other.
The signs that get along with the Sheep are secret friend the Horse and allies the Rabbit and the Pig. Those with these signs in their chart can generally expect a more supportive month ahead. *Keep in mind that other signs in the natal chart may contribute to a more challenging month.
This month may also provide a respite for the Rat as the Horse’s opposing sign with the presence of the Sheep in the month. Since secret friends prefer to spend time with each other rather than fighting their opposing signs, we can use the secret friend relationship to neutralize a clash. This is why I always recommend carrying a symbol of the secret friend each year for protection and for the Horse year, it’s the Sheep or the Goat. July is usually a heavy month of work for the Ox as the Sheep’s opposing sign, but this year the Ox may actually get to enjoy a little break from the Sheep this month, though they need to be mindful of their boundaries on days of the Dog (which are July 11, 23, and August 4), as the Ox, the Sheep and the Dog create a bullying punishment penalty when all three signs are present. Similarly, the Dog needs to practice caution on days of the Ox, which are July 14 and 26.
If you were born in a Yang Earth, Yang Wood, or Yang Metal year or day, the Sheep month is a good time to schedule personal, medical, or professional consultations as the Sheep along with opposing sign the Ox activate your Divine Support. *Yang Earth years are years that end with 8, such as 1998, 2008, 2018, and so on; Yang Wood years are years that end with 4, such as 1984, 1994, and so on; Yang Metal years are years that end with 0 such as 2010 and 2020.
*You can calculate your natal BaZi birth chart using this chart calculator to discover your daymaster (your elemental archetype) and the animal sign of the day you were born.
Hexagram of the Month: hexagram 48, the Well
The I-ching hexagram for the Wood Sheep pillar is hexagram 48, the Well, which features the Water trigram over Wind, a Wood trigram. Imagine Water inside a wooden bucket in a well providing never-ending nourishment and refreshment. Deep within you, you already have all the resources you need. Keep reaching deeper to awaken the wisdom within.
Feng Shui for the Wood Sheep month (July 7 - August 6, 2026)
Monthly star 3 rules the center of July 2026’s Flying Star chart. The trigram associated with the monthly star 3 is Zhen, the Thunder trigram, which is of Yang Wood element. Conflicts and arguments can easily arise and escalate with star 3 in the center, its strength further amplified by annual star 1, associated with the Water trigram, in the yearly chart. Let Wood’s high frequency energy of compassion be your guide whenever you encounter anger or aggressiveness.
The solid Yang line at the bottom of the Thunder trigram below two broken Yin lines indicates that Heaven has the power to intervene on earthly matters, which can be sudden and out of our control, just like the nature of thunder. Whereas the previous month’s Wind trigram implied that whatever changes or chaos occurring in the environment throughout the month were the direct consequences of our own actions, this month we may experience various kinds of divine intervention.
This month’s most productive sectors are the North, Northeast, East, and Southeast sectors. Do your daily activities in these sectors to activate the auspicious star combinations. Monthly star 2 in the Southeast brings distant wealth potential, but it’s also the star associated with illness energy in the past 20-year periods. Though its influence as an illness star has been slowly weakening since we entered Period 9 in 2024, we still need to treat sectors visited by star 2 with care.
Keep the South and West sectors quiet. These are the sectors where the annual 5 and monthly 5 reside, respectively. Take extra precautions when it comes to your health if your bedroom or front door is located in these sectors.
The center sector should be well lit to reduce the monthly star 3’s argumentative energy. Reinforce all doors and windows located in the Southwest and South, afflicted by the annual and monthly 7, a hostile star associated with robbery and fire dangers.
*Although there are remedies to lessen a sector’s negative energy, the best solution is to simply avoid using the sector, or keep the area as tidy and quiet as possible, especially if you’re not familiar with your home’s natal energies as you may accidentally activate a negative natal star. If you do have to spend time in the area, keep your activities there only as needed.
